Faulconer Residence This 13,000-square-foot home was designed not to overwhelm but to accommodate a large family, guests, and an extensive contemporary art collection. It required particular creativity to ensure the client’s personal style and requirements met strict local building codes. The result was a traditionally-framed timber and stone structure, accented with copper roofing and paneling, and stylized historical accents. The stunning exterior features a hexagonal-shaped timber frame structure which, when viewed from inside, creates a spectacular star-shaped beam ceiling with a glass and steel cupola. This fine architecture is then artistically punctuated with exterior stone wall buttresses reminiscent of those found in medieval architecture. The client’s desire for a main-level entry presented a challenge due to the steep topography of the site. To accomplish this, a large courtyard was sculpted into the mountain-side behind the home where a timber and copper pergola with raised tree planters artfully frame the 25-foot-high entryway. To our client’s delight, the pergola visually gives the home’s entrance a graceful, “more human” scale that immediately signals a warm welcome.
